Dr Anton Philipszaal, The Hague, The Hague 2511, Netherlands Saturday 24-Nov-12 08:15pm Spanish guitar virtuoso Spanish maestro Josep Pons is not only chief conductor of the Orquesta Nacional de España in Madrid, but also a guest conductor in demand with orchestras the whole world over. His love for his Spanish musical past has resulted in many awards including Spain’s National Music Prize. For this concert he’ll conduct four stirring dances from the ballet ‘Estancia’, followed by the guitar concerto by Villa-Lobos. Soloist will be the guitar virtuoso Cañizares, widely praised for his playing technique, combining a rare combination of clarity and sensitivity. The concert will close with the suite Manuel de Falla made from his ‘El sombrero de tres picos’, the famous ballet that De Falla wrote for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.
