A Talk - Rolf Jordan and Guests

'A Bigger Splash: Ralph Vaughan Williams and his 'Sea’ Symphony'

An RVW Society event, this talk will take place prior to the evening’s performance. Refreshments will be served.

Rolf Jordan is an artist and designer based near Liverpool. His art includes a series of portrait busts created in 2000-02, and the solo exhibition of oil paintings and ink drawings entitled 'Inspired by English Music', held in Ludlow during 2007. He is currently engaged in freelance art projects.

Following our very successful brass quintet masterclass last year, we are focussing on period strings for 2012. The students will bring unaccompanied Bach of their own choice on either a period or modern instrument.

Aimed at 7–11 year olds, this unique and high energy group from Holland strips music down to its bare bones. With the help of some home-made single ‘slide saxophones’, explore how sound is made, how instruments are put together and how pitch is changed. Also hear an extract from ‘The Music Factory’, a mimed musical play for children.

Ensemble 360 with Polly Ives narrator: The Chimpanzees of Happytown

Ensemble 360

This year Ensemble 360's concert is aimed at 2–7 year olds and another sell–out is expected. Composer Paul Rissmann has written an imaginative and inspirational piece based on the children's book The Chimpanzees of Happytown by Giles Andreae, illustrated by Guy Parker–Rees and published by Orchard Books.

The Chimpanzees of Happytown is funded by the Grants for the Arts.
