Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski was born in 1972 in Gdynia. In 1996 he graduated with distinction from the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw, where he studied symphonic and opera conducting with prof. B. Madey. In 1997 he was appointed Managing and Artistic Director of the Białystok Philharmonic. At the same time he is Artistic Director and Conductor of the “Filharmonia” Orchestra in Warsaw and a guest conductor of the Grand Theatre-National Opera.
In September 2005 he was appointed Managing and Artistic Director of The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, a newly-established institution set up by the Minister of Culture and the Marshal of the Podlasie Voivodeship.
Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski has developed a fine career, cooperating closely with many symphony orchestras in Poland (including the Warsaw Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia, the National Polish Radio SO in Katowice and the Polish Radio SO in Warsaw) and abroad, he performs at numerous music festivals. Foreign tours have taken him to the United States, Russia, Mexico, Morocco, Spain and Belgium (the “Europalia” Festival with the “Leopoldinum” Orchestra of Wrocław). In 2005 he conducted the Orchestra of The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in the European Parliament in Brussels (with the pianist S. Drzewiecki as soloist), in a concert inaugurating the European celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Solidarity movement. In 2006 he conducted Penderecki’s Ultenya in St Petersburg, with Russian soloists and choirs and the Orchestra of The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic.
Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski’s discography includes over a dozen CD, three of which have won nominations for the “Fryderyk” awards of the Polish recording industry. He has also made numerous recordings for radio and television, as well as recordings of popular and film music.
He won First Prize at the National Violin and Viola Competition in Elbląg and the F. Platówna 4th Vocal Competition in Wroclaw where he won also the Grand Prix of the Ministry of Culture and Art. Solo singing is another strand of his musical interests and activity. He studied voice with prof. L. A. Mróz at the Music Academy in Łódź. His honours also include the prestigious “Ad Astra” award from the Minister of Culture for young, talented artists (2001), the Silver Cross of Merit for his services in the development of culture and artistic achievements (2004) and the “Gloria Artis” Silver Medal of cultural Merit(2006).
