| Boughton Aluph Church, Ashford, Ashford, United Kingdom Friday 28-Jun-13 07:30pm Celebrating the 450th anniversary of the birth of John Dowland 1563 – 1626 ![]() Tickets: £18.00 £15.00 £12.00 ‘Lachrimae or seaven teares figured in seaven passionate pavans, with divers other pavans, galiards and allemandes, set forth for the lute, viols or violins, in five parts’ Although known as the finest lutenist of his age, John Dowland composed some of the greatest songs in the English language. His most famous - Flow my tears - comes from his Second Book of Songs, published in 1600, and he used this as the basis for an extraordinary series of seven pavans, mapping a transcendental journey from darkness to light. As well as Flow my tears and the Lachrimae or seaven teares ,tonight’s programme features some of his other celebrated songs, including In darkness let me dwell, Sorrow stay and I saw my lady weep.
