| Grieg Hall (Grieghallen), Bergen, Edvard Griegs plass 1, Bergen 5015, Norway Saturday 2-Nov-13 06:00pm 2013 and 2014 bring two critical anniversaries to Norway. This year, 2013, designated the Year of the Woman, leads to the 200th anniversary celebrations of Norwegian independence in 2014, and the fearless constitution which underpinned the nation´s commitment to freedom and democracy. To perform Beethoven´s Fidelio, then, is to make a statement which brings together the composer´s own passionate humanity and will for individual freedom with our nation´s own aspirations; and, of course, to recognize his creation of an iconic female role: Leonore – activist, feminist, wife and heroine. With the great young Lithuanian director Oskaras Korsunovas and a fine international cast, Fidelio makes a critical statement at a time of national reflection and celebration.
Duration: 2 hours 50 minutes. Introduction by Gunnar Danbolt in the Grieg Hall foyer one hour before the performance. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra Andrew Litton, Conductor Oskaras Korsunovas, Stage Director Rachel Nicholls, Soprano: Leonore Trine Wilsberg Lund, Soprano: Marzelline In-Sung Sim, Bass: Rocco Thorbjorn Gulbrandsoy, Tenor: Jaquino Gianpiero Ruggeri, Bass: Don Fernando Daniel Kirch, Tenor: Florestan Dmitry Lavrov, Bass-baritone: Don Pizarro KorVest Bergen Philharmonic Choir Håkon Matti Skrede, Choirmaster | ||
