| Philharmonie, Köln, Bischofsgartenstraße 1, 50667 Köln, Germany Sunday 8-Sep-13 11:00am Gürzenich-Orchester - Festkonzert zur Saisoneröffnung James Gaffigan, seit der vergangenen Spielzeit Erster Gastdirigent des Gürzenich-Orchesters, setzt für das Festkonzert zur Saisoneröffnung auf musikalische Romantik. »Schießende Fische mit Goldschuppen, Perlen in offenen Muscheln« glaubte Robert Schumann im »Märchen von der schönen Melusine« zu hören – Mendelssohn hatte darin die unglückliche Geschichte einer Halbnixe in Töne gebannt.
Auch Schumann ließ sich vom Wasser inspirieren für seine 3. Sinfonie, die innerhalb weniger Wochen entstand, als er gerade Städtischer Musikdirektor in Düsseldorf geworden war. Sie spiegelt zum einen die Euphorie seines glücklichen Beginns im Rheinland wider, wo man ihn euphorisch empfing, aber auch die tiefen Eindrücke, die der Anblick des Kölner Doms und der Rhein bei ihm hinterließen. So bekam die Sinfonie auch alsbald den Beinamen »Rheinische«.
Höhepunkt des Festkonzerts ist sicherlich der Auftritt von Vesselina Kasarova, eine Sängerpersönlichkeit, die seit mehr als zwanzig Jahren ihre Ausnahmestellung auf den Opernbühnen und Konzertpodien behauptet.
