| Olavinlinna Castle, Savonlinna, Savonlinna 57150, Finland Wednesday 10-Jul-13 07:00pm In honour of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi, the Savonlinna Opera Festival is adding to its repertoire one of the best-loved and most frequently-performed operas of all time. For many an opera lover this will mean a long-cherished dream come true: La traviata at last in Savonlinna!
Can a flighty courtesan accustomed to a life of pleasure genuinely fall in love, and does she deserve true happiness? Verdi was clearly inspired by this tragic, beautiful love story about Violetta and Alfredo, built round these fundamental questions. The music of La traviata is some of his very finest: coloratura arias that bubble like champagne, and melodies that play exquisitely on the ear follow one upon the other like a row of sparkling gems, pampering the listener again and again. Paolo Olmi, Conductor Stefano Romano, Conductor Mariusz Treliński, Director Boris Kudlicka, Set Designer Jennifer Rowley, Soprano: Violetta Valéry Nadja Stefanoff, Mezzo-soprano: Flora Bervoix TBA, Tenor: Alfredo Germont Daniel Sutin, Baritone: Giorgio Germont Savonlinna Opera Festival Choir Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra | ||
