| Wolkenturm, Grafenegg, Grafenegg, Austria Friday 16-Aug-13 07:30pm Festival Opening The opening of the 2013 Grafenegg Festival! It has become a tradition to open the series of concerts with a work by the composer in residence. This year it will be «Amphitheatre» by Brett Dean. Named after the beginning of the book «Momo» by Michael Ende, the work points out parallels between the design of an amphitheatre and the interplay of the individual elements of the composition. Can you imagine a better venue for the performance of this work than the Wolkenturm, whose design is modelled on an amphitheatre? Afterwards, you can enjoy the performance of Elisabeth Kulmann, the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the female members of the Wiener Singverein. Together with the Tonkünstler under the direction of Andrés Orozco-Estrada they will present Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 on the opening night of the Grafenegg Festival. | ||

| Wolkenturm, Grafenegg, Grafenegg, Austria Sunday 8-Sep-13 07:00pm Verdi Requiem The Tonkünstler’s Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada will conduct one of the most ingenious compositions by the Italian master Giuseppe Verdi, who will be celebrating his 200th birthday along with Richard Wagner in 2013. The Prelude will first present works by Italian masters including Donizetti and Puccini, as well as Verdi’s string quartet. Then the brilliant conclusion of the Festival will take place on the main stage. Verdi created an unique monumental work of dramatic power and yet also of graceful beauty — a sacred composition that focuses on the human drama. | ||
