| National Theatre, Munich, Munich, Germany Tuesday 1-Oct-13 07:00pm When the servants marry, the Count wants to have a little (more) fun in the bargain. He craves the first night with Susanna, the chambermaid. Figaro is not amused. The countess and Susanna make common cause. Double disguises and then some – and even more complications. Everybody wants everyone else – which doesn't always pan out. Nobody could lust after anyone to more glorious music. Summary: men are different – and so are women!

| The London Coliseum, St. Martin's Lane, London WC2N 4ES, United Kingdom Tuesday 1-Oct-13 07:30pm Fidelio, Op.72 (Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827)) (New production) Co-produced by ENO and the Bavarian State Opera, Munich.
In Fidelio, political prisoner Florestan is unjustly held captive by Don Pizarro, the corrupt governor of a state prison. Florestan's wife, Leonore, searches for him by assuming the disguise of a young man called Fidelio and joining the prison staff as a guard. Her rescue of Florestan offers a universal story of the power of marital love and fidelity triumphing over injustice and tyranny. Two hundred years after its premiere, Beethoven's Fidelio continues to thrill audiences with its many echoes of the composer's symphonic works, powerful orchestral imagination and exquisite melodies. Calixto Bieito's unique vision of Beethoven's only opera explores the psychological prison of each character, in a production which is contemporary and yet abstract, and which always seeks to challenge our expectations and certainties about this much-admired opera. Edward Gardner, Conductor Calixto Bieito, Director Emma Bell, Soprano: Leonore Sarah Tynan, Soprano: Marzelline Stuart Skelton, Tenor: Florestan Adrian Dwyer, Tenor: Jaquino Philip Horst, Bass-baritone: Don Pizarro Roland Wood, Baritone: Don Fernando James Creswell, Bass: Rocco

| Harmonie Endenich, Bonn, Frongasse 28-30, 53121 Bonn, Germany Tuesday 1-Oct-13 08:00pm Jazz Legend The Duo plays compositions by Jean-Luc Ponty from several decades.
Jean-Luc Ponty, virtuoso violinist and pioneer of jazz rock, has collaborated with greats like Frank Zappa and Elton John. Later his style was marked by influences from West Africa and India. What remained constant, though, was “breaking the rules”, something that he realized as long ago as the 1980s had influenced a whole generation of young musicians. In the past decade he has been on a number of world tours. On 1 October he’s coming to Bonn, a jazz legend. Additional Information: Joint event with Harmonie Endenich. | Beethovenhalle, Bonn, 53113 Bonn, Germany Tuesday 1-Oct-13 08:00pm Endless Metamorphosis "Those who say fugue say Bach… You would be equally justified claiming that those who say variation say Beethoven," said Jürgen Uhde in his book on Beethoven’s piano music. The fact that two of the three last piano sonatas are concluded with variation movements is therefore no coincidence, but one of the revolutionary solutions that Beethoven found for the development of this genre.
Additional Information: This concert will take place without an interval. The events of the Piano Sonata Cycle can be booked together at a discount by phone. "For 8 at 8" Non-bookable reserved seats for students. 7.30 PM Concert introduction "All Ears for Half" Sponsored by General-Anzeiger. Image credit: Raphael Faux-Rougemont
