| Gresham's School: Auden Theatre, Holt, Holt, United Kingdom Saturday 6-Jul-13 06:30pm A Summer Concert for St Cecilia Gounod’s Messe solennelle de Sainte-Cécile was premiered on St Cecilia’s Day in 1855, 58 years before Benjamin Britten was born. At its first performance, Camille Saint-Säens wrote that "luminous light streamed forth from this Mass... at first one was dazzled, then charmed, then conquered." The 100-strong choir, accompanied by the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra and soloists, will perform this magnificent and often over-looked work. The concert will include an extended interval so that the audience can enjoy a summer picnic on the lawns outside the theatre. | ||
