Zijn spel heeft grote muzikale zeggingskracht en zijn programma’s onderscheiden zich door de zorgvuldige repertoirekeus. Dit solorecital vormt een prachtige tweede avond van het festival.
Sinds het winnen van de eerste prijs van het Internationale Koningin Elisabeth Concours in Brussel (2003) kende Von Eckardstein vele successen. Zo trad hij op met gerenommeerde orkesten en dirigenten, waaronder het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest, Valery Gergiev en Jaap van Zweden. Deze jonge meester is een voorbeeld voor de deelnemers van de YPF Piano Competition 2013.

Beethoven captures his feelings in the three-note ‘farewell’ motif, initially downcast but injected with inspiring optimism as the sonata proceeds. The Times over pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Deze Fransman – bekend om zijn indrukwekkende cd-
opnamen – won dan ook twee Gramophone Awards en twee BBC Music Magazine Awards, naast vele
andere prijzen. In dit concert speelt hij late pianowerken van Beethoven en Debussy, muziek waarin
de componisten afkoersen op de verre toekomst.
De twee componisten zijn Bavouzets specialisatie, zou je kunnen zeggen. Debussy’s piano-oeuvre zette hij al compleet op cd bij het label Chandos. ‘Beter dan dit wordt Debussy niet gespeeld’, aldus de gezaghebbende Penguin CD Guide.
