| Assembly Hall Theatre, Tunbridge Wells, Tunbridge Wells TN1 2LU, United Kingdom Sunday 6-Apr-14 03:00pm Milne performs Romantics Viewed as a whole, Haydn’s 100-plus classical symphonies comprise an amazing range of thought, variety of form and breadth of style. In his First Symphony, Haydn succeeded in giving the immensely inventive work a distinctive character and personality of its own. If we were not spoilt for choice, Symphony No 1 would be more widely performed today. The acclaimed Scottish soprano, Lisa Milne, appears in operas and performs with orchestras all over the world. Her radiant tone will be well suited to the rich Romanticism contained in the ravishing Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, an undisputed master of music for the female voice. Lisa Milne will also bring her operatic character and power to Mahler’s glorious Fourth Symphony. It’s the brightest and most transparent of his symphonies, highlighting the simple, delicate side of the composer’s emotional range. This sunny and subtle symphony culminates in a musical representation of a child’s view of heaven. Sponsored by Greenbank Wealth Management. | ||
