| Auditorium Grafenegg, Grafenegg, Austria Saturday 25-May-13 06:30pm Pictures from Russia Three musical pictures from Russia rich in detail guarantee a unique musical experience with their vibrant tone colours and fascinating virtuosity. Glinka’s sweeping overture serves as a prelude to Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto – one of the most popular of its genre – which is in the able hands of Vadim Gluzman. Michail Jurowski, Guest Music Director of the Tonkünstler, presents a further masterpiece from his home country: the trip through Mussorgsky’s «Pictures at an Exhibition» perfectly rounds off the colourful cycle with a wealth of musical impressions. | Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Saturday 1-Jun-13 06:00pm Everybody loves Tchaikovsky - 4 hour Marathon Once again we celebrate the end of a fabulous Festival that has featured outstanding performances and tremendous audiences. To close out the season we offer you a marathon double concert of Tchaikovsky, the great Russian romantic who gave us some of the most beloved and often-played music in the world, including the 1812 Overture and the fabulous Nutcracker. Tonight we offer something more intimate but equally outstanding, his chamber music.
Tchaikovsky’s music was played at the inauguration of Carnegie Hall and will bring our Festival to an end but not before we hear his first String Quartet, his Piano Trio, his Souvenir de Florence, a very special performance of a transcription for piano of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony by teen sensation Conrad Tao and, to close the season, his Serenade for Strings. Many of this season’s artists will be back to take a bow and, with their final notes, offer us a marvelous way to bring the 18th season to a close. Thank you all for making this the best season ever and see you next year! | Cadogan Hall, London, 5 Sloane Terrace, London SW1X 9DQ, United Kingdom Tuesday 4-Jun-13 07:30pm Mozart, Weber and Tchaikovsky A glorious programme encompassing music of sublime wit, high drama and intense emotion. Mozart produced some of the most joyous operatic music ever written, and we are treated to several delights boasting vocal lines of deep expression and breathtaking agility.
Weber’s operas have been hugely influential, inspiring the likes of Wagner to embark on his pioneering music dramas. But it is his operatic overtures which are most frequently performed, and their popularity is understandable: the music brims with energy, intrigue and originality.
The programme culminates in the devastating beauty of Tchaikovsky’s 'Pathétique' Symphony, a masterpiece of aching emotion and symphonic brilliance. | ||
