| New Chambers Sanssouci: Ovid Gallery, Potsdam, Im Park Sanssouci, 14469, Potsdam, Germany Saturday 8-Jun-13 07:30pm Fascinating Hardanger The combination of archaic rawness and timeless, elementary power makes for a memorable experience when listening to a Hardanger violin. It has additional resonance chords like the viola d’amore and its flat chevalet allows for playing in chords much like the viola da gamba. Five virtuosic soloists become a fabulous ensemble, make the stories hidden in their old instruments resonate and conjure up worlds of sound in the listener’s ear that make the borders between old and new music miraculously permeable. In German Elisabeth Seitz’ instrument is, rather crudely referred to as "chopping board" yet when she plays it, a baroque gavotte suddenly sounds as if dreamed under the midnight sun.
Tickets: € 35,- / 30,- Traditional, Music from Norway Various, Baroque music from England and Italy Maurseth, Benedicte (b. 1983), New works Økland, Nils (b. 1961), New works | ||

Pre-Reformation motets preserved in the Eton Choirbook thread through the BBC Singers’ alluring programme of works by Gustav Holst and his daughter Imogen, including the third set of Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda for female voices and harp, as a prelude to tonight’s performance of Indra.Tickets £10 - £12.
