| Barbican Centre: Hall, London, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS, United Kingdom Monday 10-Mar-14 07:30pm Dmitri Hvorostovsky Dmitri Hvorostovsky is a true heavyweight of the operatic scene whose song recitals are shaped first and foremost by his remarkable ability to sculpt a meaningful evening of music from a selection of seemingly unrelated songs. Here the man who so often makes a performance from a single singer and pianist into a concert of uncanny grandeur sings music by some of the greatest song composers from his native Russia. Expect the usual feelings of spontaneity, sensuality, and magnetism as Hvorostovsky performs at the Barbican with his regular partner at the piano, Ivary Ilja. Programme to include romances by Rachmaninov and Glière on poems by Alexander Pushkin, and Sviridov’s St Petersburg: a vocal poem.

Music by Sviridov, Grechaninov, Chesnokov, Kastalsky and others – a chance to hear some gems from a little-known corner of the choral repertoire. Tickets £10.
