| Barbican Centre: Hall, London, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS, United Kingdom Wednesday 9-Apr-14 07:30pm Elina Garanca, Music by Schumann and Strauss Mezzo-soprano Elina Garanča comes to the Barbican for an evening of song pivoting on Robert Schumann’s extraordinary picture of ‘a woman’s love and live’, Frauenlibe und lieben. In this cycle of eight songs, Schumann responded to the deliberately naïve poetry of Adelbert von Chamisso with music of touching directness and simplicity, symbolizing the eternal love he felt for his own wife Clara in the process. Garanča’s silky, lustrous voice also takes to the twisting sadness of Richard Strauss. Tickets: £15-45 | ||
