|

| Oslo Concert Hall (Konserthus), Oslo 0250, Norway Thursday 23-May-13 07:30pm Saraste's farewell as chief conductor This is by no means a farewell concert as Saraste will be returning as guest conductor already in the 2013–2014 season. At the same time, these concerts mark the end of a seven-year engagement with us in Oslo as well as an extremely important chapter in the orchestra’s artistic history. It will be next to impossible to leave the concert hall unmoved when the final chorus of Mahler’s’ symphony no. 2 finishes with “Bereite dich zu leben”. | ||

Since its premiere after the Second World War, Messiaen's extraordinary masterpiece Turangalîla has acquired a cult following among audiences drawn to its ecstatic harmonies, soaring melodies, opulent orchestrations and intense emotional power.
If you've never experienced this utterly extraordinary work live, then this is the time to do it.

| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Saturday 1-Jun-13 06:00pm Everybody loves Tchaikovsky - 4 hour Marathon Once again we celebrate the end of a fabulous Festival that has featured outstanding performances and tremendous audiences. To close out the season we offer you a marathon double concert of Tchaikovsky, the great Russian romantic who gave us some of the most beloved and often-played music in the world, including the 1812 Overture and the fabulous Nutcracker. Tonight we offer something more intimate but equally outstanding, his chamber music.
Tchaikovsky’s music was played at the inauguration of Carnegie Hall and will bring our Festival to an end but not before we hear his first String Quartet, his Piano Trio, his Souvenir de Florence, a very special performance of a transcription for piano of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony by teen sensation Conrad Tao and, to close the season, his Serenade for Strings. Many of this season’s artists will be back to take a bow and, with their final notes, offer us a marvelous way to bring the 18th season to a close. Thank you all for making this the best season ever and see you next year! | Konzerthaus: Rolf Böhme Saal, Freiburg, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 1, 79098 Freiburg, Germany Monday 3-Jun-13 08:00pm Freiburger Barockorchester: The first FBO concert from 1987 After two years practicing and rehearsing, sometimes alongside their own courses of study,the time finally came: a young, enthusiastic crowd of musicians presented themselves in Burgheim Church in Lahr for the first time in a concert under the name Freiburg Baroque Orchestra on 8 November 1987. On the programme then (and today) a kaleidoscope of European Baroque music: the start of a major success story. True to the democratic self-image of the newly founded orchestra, the individual pieces were directed at the time by a variety of concert masters and concert mistresses from within the band’s own ranks. This will be the case again at this concert at the end of the FBO jubilee season. How will it sound when the same orchestra plays a “historical encore” after 25 years?
Introductory lecture at 7.15 p.m. Muffat, Georg (1653-1704), Suite in G major | ||
