| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Wednesday 22-May-13 08:00pm Bach Week: Solo Bach Stradivarius etc When our Artistic Director and Founder Denis Brott found the cello he wanted to perform on for the rest of his life, there was only one problem. He couldn’t afford it! This isn’t news in the music world as very few can afford a Stradivarius or, as Denis wanted, a 1706 Tecchler! With a few close friends, especially William Turner and the Canada Council’s Gilles Lefebvre, he helped create what would soon become a revolutionary institution, the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank. Their first instrument was Denis’s prized Tecchler.
Today the Bank possesses 35 million dollars of string instruments and, through competition, offers each one for three years to outstanding young Canadian artists. A few of the instruments came together on stage at the Festival several years ago but otherwise the collection, which includes Stradivarius, Guarneri del Gesù and Gagliano, has never been heard in performance on the same stage at the same time. Until now! For the first time in the history of the Canada Council, we are proud to present 16 winners of the 2012 competition. This concert features each performer in a solo work by Bach. | Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Thursday 23-May-13 08:00pm Bach Week: The Complete Brandenburg Concertos Bach wrote these six concertos for various instruments for the Margrave of Brandenburg who would eventually become the King of Prussia and Saxony. He was never paid and never thanked! It took 150 years before they became known as the Brandenburg Concertos and they are considered to be the greatest works in the Baroque repertoire. You’ll hear all of them in this concert that features a star-studded cast led by distinguished British violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch and including trumpet sensation Jens Lindemann and the winners of the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank 2012 Competition along with many of Montreal’s finest musicians.

Three Stories This third concert in our TD Jazz series features the outstanding New York based pianist Eldar Djangirov. Eldar came to the Festival last year for his first ever concert in Montreal and blew us all away with his amazing dexterity and sophisticated musical choices. He’s back and this time in a solo performance that we know will sell out. Based on his recent CD titled Three Stories, Eldar will offer us standards, original works and classical selections ranging from Bach to Gershwin to Corea to Prokofiev to Radiohead. He’s been described as the next Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck called him a genius beyond question.
Don’t believe me? Go to his home page, scroll down and watch the video of his performance here last year. Don’t hesitate, don’t wait or you’ll be disappointed. Eldar’s back but for one night only!

His elegance, his refinement, his pianistic style are legendary and we are proud to be able to offer him in concert over two nights. His chosen repertoire will be French as he touches four of France’s greatest composers: Ravel, Debussy, Fauré and César Franck.
The first evening of his two concert series offers two works by Ravel and one by César Franck. To begin the evening, David Jalbert joins Collard in a performance of the original version of the Mother Goose Suite. Ravel’s String Quartet in F major follows in a presentation by the Cecilia String Quartet and after the intermission, you will hear César Franck’s Piano Quintet featuring Collard and the Cecilia in what has been called a work of ecstasy and unconstrained sensuality.

| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Saturday 1-Jun-13 06:00pm Everybody loves Tchaikovsky - 4 hour Marathon Once again we celebrate the end of a fabulous Festival that has featured outstanding performances and tremendous audiences. To close out the season we offer you a marathon double concert of Tchaikovsky, the great Russian romantic who gave us some of the most beloved and often-played music in the world, including the 1812 Overture and the fabulous Nutcracker. Tonight we offer something more intimate but equally outstanding, his chamber music.
Tchaikovsky’s music was played at the inauguration of Carnegie Hall and will bring our Festival to an end but not before we hear his first String Quartet, his Piano Trio, his Souvenir de Florence, a very special performance of a transcription for piano of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony by teen sensation Conrad Tao and, to close the season, his Serenade for Strings. Many of this season’s artists will be back to take a bow and, with their final notes, offer us a marvelous way to bring the 18th season to a close. Thank you all for making this the best season ever and see you next year!
