Bach J.S., Minuets, gavottes, polskas, waltzes & more Works by Traditional Swedish |
![]() | ||
| New Chambers Sanssouci: Ovid Gallery, Potsdam, Im Park Sanssouci, 14469, Potsdam, Germany Thursday 13-Jun-13 08:00pm Bach in Swedish Scandinavians have a tendency to fearlessly deal with distinguished repertoire and tear down walls between what in Germany is referred to as "serious" and "entertaining" music. Two clever Swedes have unearthed the great Bach, taken his folksy roots as a "municipal piper" and put them onto a Swedish dance floor – and behold – he has grown roots immediately and is flourishing. And the harmonium can also do a lot more than accompanying sacred music: when it was used as all-round instrument, quite similar to contemporary keyboards, it was at times and not only in Sweden more popular then the piano. Its renaissance in the modern folk scene is more than deserved. "Bach in Swedish" is suitable for both Bach and Swedish beginners and makes perfect sense without using a dictionary: the combination shakes several legs.
Tickets € 35,- / 30,- Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685-1750), Minuets, gavottes, polskas, waltzes & more Works by Traditional Swedish | ||

| New Garden: Palace Park, Potsdam, Potsdam, Germany Saturday 15-Jun-13 08:30pm Folk in the Garden Keeping tradition does not mean to keep ashes, but to make sure the fire does not stop burning. True to this principle we use 2013 for turning from Jazz to Folk in the Garden. Scandinavia’s folk music scene reinvigorates the local musical tradition. Old melodies are lovingly and respectfully absorbed without any stylistic inhibitions and they are linked to multiple worlds of contemporary musical experience. Be there when a number of illustrious representatives of their art take over the park at Heiliger See and the spark once again truly lights the fire. Performances happen simultaneously in various locations both indoors and outdoors between Orangery and Marble Palace and with a trip to the Sea Shell Grotto and the Bark Kitchen at Jungfernsee. You receive your complete program overview at the entrance so feel free to individually create your very own musical course while enjoying the atmospherically lit park in its vespertine beauty.
Look forward to the following musicians:
Led by one of Norway’s best folk fiddlers the GJERMUND LARSEN TRIO with Andreas Utnem at the piano & the harmonium and contrabass player Sondre Mejsfjord won the Norwegian Grammy. Their poetic creations make them one of the scene’s most exciting appearances.

Concept, production & directed by:
Hanne Dieserud and Christina Lindgren The first sense that is fully developed in an unborn baby is listening: the inner ear with the listening organs reaches its final size in the fifth month of the pregnancy! So a child has already listened to and experienced a multitude of sounds, tones and rhythms before it is born. "Why not continue straight away?" thought Hanne Dieserud and Christina Lindgren. They got together with Maja Ratkje and invented a baby opera truly any child can understand. Using their voices and an array of fantastical musical instruments the two performers unfold a mystical underwater world filled with dreamily soft sounds in the intimate atmosphere of a shell-shaped tent. The playing lasts for 20 minutes and afterwards small and large members of the audience are welcome to discover the space and the instruments. Early musical education really can be this magical.

| Zur Historischen Mühle Sanssouci: Mövenpick Restaurant, Potsdam, Zur Historischen Mühle 2,, 14469 Potsdam, Germany Sunday 16-Jun-13 11:30am Bellman Brunch He had a weakness for strongly spirited drinks and scantily dressed girls and he could not handle money either. He really enjoyed Stockholm’s taverns where he sang songs accompanied by a cister that delighted both the king and his drinking mates. He was a gifted improvisational poet and found tunes for his singing in just about any place. That is not to say that he pulled his art out of a hat: because art is nice, but hard work (German comedian Karl Valentin). Nowadays the genius songwriter Carl Michael Bellman is treasured as a poet laureate in Sweden. His songs always capture life in all its beauty and decrepitude and they always storm directly to the listener’s heart. True to the spirit of their creator we serve them with an opulent Sunday breakfast. Nota bene: a hangover is welcome but not required. The buffet offers Scandinavian delicacies including salmon & matjes herring, köttbullar, roast beef & ham, a selection of salads & cheeses, blueberry pancakes, fresh waffles and much more. Hot drinks are included. Tickets € 35,- brunch concert, hot drinks included Works by Bellman, Carl Michael (1740-1795) | ||

| Park Sanssouci: Nordic Garden, Potsdam, Mulberry Ave, Potsdam, Germany Friday 21-Jun-13 10:00pm The Troll Night Twilight in the quiet park – and the Nordic Garden turns into a magical forest. Mysterious sounds are heard, the grottos are filled with archaic singing and call on wondrous and eerie creatures to appear from their hiding places. Trolls, elves and all kinds of mystical beings appear from and disappear into the darkness: midsummer night in Sanssouci.
You are strolling through the nightly park between Nordic Garden and Orangery Terraces. First you may meet a vocal enchantress, then there is a Sami evocator and an enchanting choir and secret musicians let you listen to their invisible music: even musicologist Johann Mattheson referred to a reliable source when he reported "underground cliff concerts", that confuse the minds of decent Norwegians during certain nights. Allow yourself to be enchanted by an unforgettable midsummer night’s dream in Sanssouci.
