| Southbank Centre: Royal Festival Hall, London, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX, United Kingdom Thursday 6-Jun-13 07:30pm Dohnányi conducts Philharmonia Orchestra in London At no time in musical history has a composer travelled so far as quickly as Beethoven in the Eroica Symphony. This is music that appears to breathe the air of a different planet, lacerating 18th-century sensibilities along the way. Not only is it longer than any symphony previously written, but the emotional content is startlingly raw, with brutal sforzandos rammed home, harmonic dissonances revelled in as never before, and fizzing virtuosity demanded of the players at every turn. Beethoven’s hearing was fast fading and by declaring himself ‘emperor’ his hero Napoleon had become ‘just another tyrant’. Music would never be the same again. | ||

The famous violinist, who has won many international music awards, regularly guest-performs with all major orchestras in the world and organises a chamber music festival, will play Prokofiev’s second violin concerto. The second part of the programme will feature the «Eroica», one of the great key works of music history, composed one year after Beethoven had written the «Heiligenstadt Testament». Brett Dean’s work «Testament», which will be performed first, refers to that distressing document, in which Beethoven expressed his despair over the increasing isolation he felt as a result of his progressive deafness.

| Beethovenhalle, Bonn, 53113 Bonn, Germany Thursday 3-Oct-13 08:00pm "Beethoven ile bulușma - Encounter with Beethoven" Deutsche Welle presents: Campus Concert
In 2013 the “Encounter with Beethoven” programme will – as in 2012 – be building a bridge to Istanbul. In addition to Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony, the orchestra will be playing two works by Turkish composers. Ulvi Cemal Erkin is one of the “Turkish Five”, a group of composers who in the first half of the twentieth century for the first time wrote symphonic music with a national character. In Zeynep Gedizlioğlu, the winner of the Ernst von Siemens Composers Encouragement Prize in 2012 and a pupil of Wolfgang Rihm, Deutsche Welle and the conductor Ramiz Malik Aslanov have chosen a young avantgarde composer whose new work reflects the “zeitgeist” of the pulsating city of Istanbul. Additional Information: "For 8 at 8" Non-bookable reserved seats for students. 7.30 PM Concert introduction The patron of the Campus Project is the German Foreign Minister, Dr Guido Westerwelle. Sponsored by RWE, the German Foreign Office and the North Rhine Westphalia State Ministry for the Family, Children, Young People, Culture and Sport. | Barbican Centre: Hall, London, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS, United Kingdom Wednesday 8-Jan-14 07:30pm Beethoven's Third Symphony For his second programme in the season, Sakari Oramo offers an exhilarating menu of Beethoven, Schumann and Colin Matthews. Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony was, and remains, a revolutionary statement of genius. From the blazing ‘hunting’ horns in the symphony’s trio, we move to Schumann’s glorious Konzertstück for four horns, showcasing soloists from the orchestra, and the heroic, romantic and soulful qualities of the instrument. Traces Remain, a new commission from Colin Matthews, takes its name and inspiration from a book of essays by Charles Nicholl: ‘the sudden presence, the glimpse behind the curtain, the episode measured in minutes and preserved across the centuries’.

€ 27,00 / € 21,50 Stadspas / € 21,50 CJP Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827), Symphony no. 3 in E flat major "Eroica", Op.55 (arr. for piano quartet) Beethoven, Ludwig van (1770-1827), Symphony no. 7 in A major, Op.92 (arr. for wind)
