| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Saturday 25-May-13 08:00pm Bach Week: The Complete Violin Concertos This concert completes our week of Bach as we present all of his violin concertos. There are six of them that feature one, two or three violins as soloists and we have a star-studded cast of musicians to perform them for you. The great American violinist Rachel Barton Pine returns to the Festival as soloist and leader of the ensemble. She’ll be joined by violinists Elizabeth Wallfisch and Timmy Chooi and OSM Principal Oboe Ted Baskin. The ensemble will be made up of the winners of the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank 2012 competition. A world-class evening in store for you!
The Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank possesses 35 million dollars of string instruments and, through competition, offers each one for three years to outstanding young Canadian artists. A few of the instruments came together on stage at the Festival several years ago but otherwise the collection, which includes Stradivarius, Guarneri del Gesù and Gagliano, has never been seen on the same stage at the same time, until now.Rachel Barton Pine, Violin Elizabeth Wallfisch, Violin Jocelyn Roy, Flute Hank Knox, Harpsichord Marie-Ève Poupart, Violin Matilda Kaul, Violin Boson Mo, Violin Iryna Krechkovsky, Violin Kerry DuWors, Violin Andréa Tyniec, Violin Emily Westell, Violin Marcus Thompson, Viola Lambert Chen, Viola Emmanuel Vukovich, Viola Arnold Choi, Cello Rachel Desoer, Cello Ariel Barnes, Cello James VanDemark, Double Bass Theodore Baskin, Oboe

With a remarkable repertoire spanning eight centuries of western music from sacred music to opera, madrigals to oratorio, it is perhaps Bach that provides the constant, most famously in their extraordinary millennium pilgrimage project. Here in the first of
two Bach programmes, Ascensiontide cantatas are wrapped around one of his best-loved instrumental works, the sublime double violin concerto. ‘If there were a Nobel prize for choirs, the Monteverdi Choir should be its laureate’ - Le Monde Pre-performance talk with Michael White, Peter Pears Recital Room 6.30pm. | Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom Wednesday 11-Sep-13 01:00pm Bach at Lunchtime After the show-stopping thrills of the opening concert of The Art of of Bryn Terfel, the bass-baritone demonstrates the opposite extreme of his astonishing range. Bach’s Cantata No.82 is sacred music at its most universal; profound emotion distilled into pure serenity and it’s one of Bryn’s very favourite works. For this one-off lunchtime performance, he’s joined by a dedicated ensemble of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra players, and two of the Orchestra’s very own stars get to share the limelight in Bach’s timeless Concerto for Two Violins: music that you’re sure to recognise even if you don’t think you know it!Image credit: Brian Tarr
