Her European debut with the Bern Symphony Orchestra was broadcast live on Swiss Radio. “The Strad” magazine has called her “One of the most distinguished British violinists of her generation.” Her recording career began with sonatas by Elgar and Walton for A.S.V. Then came a highly praised Britten Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra and Steuart Bedford, several sonata discs and recently Holst’s Song of the Night with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Her recently released performance of the York Bowen violin concerto with the BBC Concert Orchestra on the Dutton label has received extensive critical praise. She plays “Spring” from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons on London Octave’s CD “Better Baroque”. LONDON OCTAVE was founded by cellist Dietrich Bethge in 1988 from London's leading musicians, London Octave aims to approach the baroque and classical repertoire in a fresh and vital manner, often without a conductor, but principally for the players’ own enjoyment and the enjoyment of the audience. Through their regular London season at St Martin-in-the-Fields, the South Bank and on BBC Radio 3, London Octave has attracted a loyal following of concert goers who appreciate their vitality and virtuosity. This, coupled with their programmes based on major and accessible works, has established them as one of the leading chamber orchestras in Britain. The members, many of whom have distinguished individual careers, frequently take turns as soloists and leading musicians are often invited to work with the ensemble. In 2005 he won both second prize in the Ibiza International Piano Competition and first prize in the Intercollegiate Beethoven Competition organized by the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe. In July 2006 he won second prize in the Amy Brant Piano Competition in Birmingham. He has also been awarded the Myra Hess Award from the Musicians’ Benevolent Fund, the 2006 Ricci Foundation Award and the 2006 Maisie Lewis Award. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and in 2005–7 Mikhail studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Mark Ray, Alexander Melnikov and Nelson Goerner. He gave his Wigmore Hall debut recital in March 2007. Mikhail has participated in masterclasses given by András Schiff, Charles Rosen, Stephen Hough, Barry Douglas and Stefano Fiuzzi and in Summer 2007 he took part in the Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme. As a soloist with orchestra, he has recently performed with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra, with the RNCM Concert Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Trinity College of Music and the Gulbenkian Symphony Orchestra. St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, London, United Kingdom Tuesday 6-Aug-13 07:30pm Beethoven Moonlight Sonata Pavel Timofejevsky, pianist and composer, began his music studies at the age of six at the Gnessin Music School in Russia. In 1995 he entered the Purcell School of Music on full scholarship and won a number of prestigious awards and national competitions including the Bbc Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year award. Pavel is also a very keen promoter of contemporary music and has given world premiers of works by Ian Stewart, Liz Johnson, Gregorio Zanon and John Carmichael. Always interested in trying something new, Pavel, in 2005, recorded the soundtrack and starred as young Tchaikovsky in the documentary film Tchaikovsky for the Us Biography TV channel. Two years later he was commissioned to compose the score for the feature-length documentary Le fin de la belle époque for Russian tv which received great critical acclaim. In 2009 Pavel was appointed Musician in Residence at St John’s Church, Notting Hill, London. The season of 2010 saw Pavel performing at Schumann and Chopin Festivals at St. Barnabas Church. Recent highlights included performing the solo part and conducting from the piano Bach’s D minor keyboard concerto at the Notting Hill Mayfest and a concert tour of the Lake District and the Isle of Man. Pavel was selected to be 2011 Recommended Artist by the Making Music Young Concert Artist Awards.
