At the same time, these concerts mark the end of a seven-year engagement with us in Oslo as well as an extremely important chapter in the orchestra’s artistic history. It will be next to impossible to leave the concert hall unmoved when the final chorus of Mahler’s’ symphony no. 2 finishes with “Bereite dich zu leben”. Bach’s sons, this might be a good chance to start. J.C.F. Bach is not well known (much of his music was lost in a WWII bombing raid), but his 20th symphony is a perfect example of the late rococo, particularly in his use of the winds.
