| Aldeburgh Box Office, 152 High Street, Aldeburgh IP15 5AQ, United Kingdom Sunday 16-Jun-13 The Borough Punchdrunk Theatre Company and its artistic director Felix Barrett are pioneers in a highly individual form of theatre, focusing as much on audience members and the surroundings as the performers and the narrative. Lines between spaces, performer and spectator blur to create an unforgettable experience. This version sets the story somewhere between George Crabbe’s poem The Borough and Britten’s masterpiece, Peter Grimes. It will take audience members on individual theatrical journeys around Grimes’ town, following in his footsteps and hearing Britten’s score. Open air: Outdoors | ||

Concept, production & directed by:
Hanne Dieserud and Christina Lindgren The first sense that is fully developed in an unborn baby is listening: the inner ear with the listening organs reaches its final size in the fifth month of the pregnancy! So a child has already listened to and experienced a multitude of sounds, tones and rhythms before it is born. "Why not continue straight away?" thought Hanne Dieserud and Christina Lindgren. They got together with Maja Ratkje and invented a baby opera truly any child can understand. Using their voices and an array of fantastical musical instruments the two performers unfold a mystical underwater world filled with dreamily soft sounds in the intimate atmosphere of a shell-shaped tent. The playing lasts for 20 minutes and afterwards small and large members of the audience are welcome to discover the space and the instruments. Early musical education really can be this magical.

| Tonhalle: Grosser Saal, Zürich, Claridenstrasse 7, Zürich 8002, Switzerland Sunday 16-Jun-13 11:00am Kinderkonzert "Baron Münchhausen" Baron Munchhausen is a liar, a cheat, a scoundrel and a fantasist - an example children should live by! His stories are incredible: he has pulled himself (and his horse) out of a swamp by his own hair; he's leapt from cannonball to canonball in mid-flight; and he's had twelve ducks fly him home before killing them all in one shot. For that last one, all he needed was ham, rope and flexible logic. Baron Munchhausen himself leads the audience through his stories with music from Britten, Grieg, Prokofiev,Stravinsky, Anderson, Boccherini und Mozart. No one's too young to tell a tall tale or two!«Baron Münchhausen» Ein Musiktheater für Kinder ab 5 Jahren.

He really enjoyed Stockholm’s taverns where he sang songs accompanied by a cister that delighted both the king and his drinking mates. He was a gifted improvisational poet and found tunes for his singing in just about any place. That is not to say that he pulled his art out of a hat: because art is nice, but hard work (German comedian Karl Valentin). Nowadays the genius songwriter Carl Michael Bellman is treasured as a poet laureate in Sweden. His songs always capture life in all its beauty and decrepitude and they always storm directly to the listener’s heart. True to the spirit of their creator we serve them with an opulent Sunday breakfast. Nota bene: a hangover is welcome but not required. The buffet offers Scandinavian delicacies including salmon & matjes herring, köttbullar, roast beef & ham, a selection of salads & cheeses, blueberry pancakes, fresh waffles and much more. Hot drinks are included. Tickets € 35,- brunch concert, hot drinks included Works by Bellman, Carl Michael (1740-1795)

At first he lived on the pages of a book, then he moved to the small screen as a cartoon, then he made it to the big screen and now everybody knows him: Wickie, the small Viking boy with the big flashes of inspiration. Wickie has to face his greatest challenge when pirates attack his home village of Flake and abduct all the children – all but him. The whole village is devastated, his father Halvar and the other men are totally at a loss. But Wickie sees through the kidnapper’s game and comes up with a cunning plan… Millions of people have already watched director Bully Herbig’s funny and exciting cinema adventure – but never like this: this time the music is not just part of the soundtrack, it is performed live by Filmorchester Babelsberg who did record it for the movie. Before the screening starts you can put together everything a real Viking needs like a helmet for example. And in the courtyard you can pit your strength against each other when you take part in "the battle of the whales" and other games. But remember: Wickie is proof that sheer muscle power isn’t everything!

| Britten Studio, Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, Aldeburgh, United Kingdom Sunday 16-Jun-13 03:00pm Quatuor Mosaïques II The art of fugue: music from Gregor Werner, Haydn’s predecessor at the Esterhazy court sets the foundation stones for a concert that culminates in one of the most extraordinary and explosive examples of the form in music history. Beethoven’s ‘great’ fugue, a conclusion to what is – even without its fi nale – a radical and profound late quartet, is so ambitious in scope and experimental in design that its shockwaves still resound even to modern ears. In a way Haydn is no less radical – his own fugal fi nale is part of a conscious revival of baroque forms and the theatrical drama provided by its four interlocking voices provides tantalizing tiny hints at what his most famous pupil would achieve. Schulz whose work in Berlin, Rheinsberg and Copenhagen actively influenced the musical life of his period was even mentioned in one breath with Haydn by his contemporaries. He is introduced here as an original, multifaceted piano composer – and the tangent piano which combines the advantages of harpsichord, clavichord and forte piano is also brought back. Schulze’s students in Copenhagen include C.E.F. Weyse who himself became an institution in the Danish music scene later, a gifted pianist whose improvisational art amazed even Franz Liszt. Christine Schornsheim on the other hand is not unknown to the piano lover: this passionate performer and dedicated specialist for historical keyboard instruments is certain to look after these rarities exceptionally well. | Bedford Corn Exchange, Bedford MK40 1SL, United Kingdom Sunday 16-Jun-13 07:30pm Ashkenazy conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra in Bedford Elgar’s epic Violin Concerto was composed for the celebrated Viennese virtuoso Fritz Kreisler, who shortly before giving the 1910 world première in London vowed “I will shake the Queen’s Hall!” He obviously had the desired effect as according to one reviewer, “for a quarter of an hour they called and recalled the man [Elgar] who had achieved a triumph not only for himself, but also for England, and hailed him as master and hero.” Elgar’s own opinion was that “It’s good! Awfully emotional! Too emotional...but I love it.” Beethoven’s passion was for the countryside. “You ask me where my ideas come from” he once noted, “they come to me in the open air, in the woods, while walking, in the silence of the night, early in the morning”. The Pastoral Symphony, with its unambiguously bucolic movement titles, is the composer’s attempt to set these sounds and scenes in notes on paper. | ||
