Zijn zoon Johann Christian én Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart brachten het genre later tot wasdom. Vandaag speelt de Oostenrijkse pianist Paul Badura-Skoda (1927) werken uit deze begintijd van het pianoconcert. Badura-Skoda, pionier in het gebruik van authentieke instrumenten, geldt als een van de belangrijkste pianisten van onze tijd. Niet alleen in zijn repertoirekeus, maar ook in zijn artistieke persoonlijkheid maakt Paul Badura-Skoda de muziekgeschiedenis tastbaar. Via hem is er een directe link met legendarische musici uit de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw. Hij studeerde bij de grote Zwitserse pianist Edwin Fischer en gaf concerten met fameuze dirigenten als Wilhelm Fürtwangler en Herbert von Karajan.
