| Dr Anton Philipszaal, The Hague, Spuiplein 150, The Hague 2511, Netherlands Sunday 26-May-13 11:00am ROndje Wereldorkest [AROund the world with the orchestra] In this performance, ten musicians from the Residentie Orkest/The Hague Philharmonic discover that their instruments have sisters and brothers all over the world, and that they’re all on the menu at the Residentie Restaurant. The waiter will serve a Chinese guzheng under the warm light of an alpenhorn lamp, and with the Indian items, you’ll have to blow hard to keep the snakes charmed! This humorous performance has surprising tastes from all over the world, brought together in a set meal of sounds.

| New Chambers Sanssouci: Ovid Gallery, Potsdam, Im Park Sanssouci, 14469, Potsdam, Germany Thursday 13-Jun-13 08:00pm Bach in Swedish Scandinavians have a tendency to fearlessly deal with distinguished repertoire and tear down walls between what in Germany is referred to as "serious" and "entertaining" music. Two clever Swedes have unearthed the great Bach, taken his folksy roots as a "municipal piper" and put them onto a Swedish dance floor – and behold – he has grown roots immediately and is flourishing. And the harmonium can also do a lot more than accompanying sacred music: when it was used as all-round instrument, quite similar to contemporary keyboards, it was at times and not only in Sweden more popular then the piano. Its renaissance in the modern folk scene is more than deserved. "Bach in Swedish" is suitable for both Bach and Swedish beginners and makes perfect sense without using a dictionary: the combination shakes several legs.
Tickets € 35,- / 30,- Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685-1750), Minuets, gavottes, polskas, waltzes & more Works by Traditional Swedish | ||

Canadian virtuoso and Stradivarius player James Ehnes will perform unaccompanied music by Bach and Paganini on a number of Stradivarius violins and discuss what's unique about them and the sound they produce. Award-winning period ensemble La Serenissima will follow this by performing a programme of music from the age of Stradivarius by Vivaldi, Valentini and their contemporaries.
This event will open the exhibition, a fascinating exploration of the master maker's work featuring the largest collection of Stradivarius instruments ever assembled as well as audiovisual footage featuring James Ehnes.

Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra was founded in Toronto in 1981 and takes its name from a German compound noun meaning "music for dining" - an appropriate appellation for an ensemble which has produced so many lavish musical feasts over the past 31 years. Along with its many annual performances at home in Canada, this internationally renowned orchestra has - for the past 19 summers - appeared at the Klang und Raum festival held in an ancient monastery in Irsee, Germany. When John Miller and his artistic colleague, Neil Crory, heard that this German festival would come to an end in 2011, they approached the orchestra's Artistic Director, Jeanne Lamon, to invite Tafelmusik to Stratford Summer Music with the idea that the music of J.S. Bach, and in particular his many Cantatas, could be the focus of the orchestra’s programming for many years into the future. 2013 thus marks the second season when this exceptional orchestra, with soloists, will return to Stratford Summer Music to present Herr Bach's music. Because Jeanne Lamon has announced her relinquishing leadership of the orchestra, this year's performances may be the final opportunities for our audiences to experience Tafelmusik under its beloved and distinguished music director. | Burg Namedy, Andernach, 56626 Andernach, Germany Sunday 29-Sep-13 06:00pm Shostakovich Metamorphoses From the cinema and theatre into the concert hall, from the symphony orchestra to the chamber ensemble: Dmitri Shostakovich’s music was and is open to metamorphoses of all kinds, and not infrequently was rearranged by the composer himself. From his incidental music to Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, Balzac’s “The Human Comedy” and his film music for “The Adventures of Korzinkina”, the Delian Quartet have compiled this suite authorized by Irina Antonovna Shostakovich. The confrontation of Shostakovich with older works, namely Bach’s counterpoint, informs the first part of the concert.

| Barbican Centre: Hall, London, Silk Street, London EC2Y 8DS, United Kingdom Friday 6-Dec-13 07:30pm Janine Jansen and Friends When the fire and passion of Vivaldi’s virtuosic violin concertos reached the ears of the ordered and disciplined Lutheran Johann Sebastian Bach, something special happened. Freed from his organ bench in the early 1720s, Bach composed a series of concertos for the violin that combined energetic propulsion and free-spirited individuality with the intricacy and cohesion he had made his own. Janine Jansen, the Dutch musician known for her expressive and infectiously energetic violin-playing, performs the concertos here with musicians from the Utrecht festival she herself founded.
