| St Michael and All Angels Church, Oxford, Oxford OX2 7ES, United Kingdom Friday 25-May-12 07:30pm Guitar & Accordion - 2 solo recitals Two of the UK’s brightest young talents present music from all over the world. Programme to include works by Bach, Piazzolla, Giuliani, Barrios, Takahashi, Britten, Gubaidulina, Ginastera and more. Servane Le Moller was born in Luxemburg in 1985 and started to play the accordion at the age of 14 in the class of Maurizio Spiridigliozzi. From 2005 to 2010 she studied at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen (Germany) under Mie Miki, and in September 2010 she was given a scholarship to do her Masters at the Royal Academy of Music with Owen Murray. Whilst performing in London and throughout the UK, Servane regularly performs in Luxemburg in solo, ensemble and orchestral concerts, in particular with the Luxembourg Sinfonietta. In 2010 Servane performed the world premiere of the piece ‘Partita’ from Maurizio Spiridigliozzi, in the Philarmonie du Luxembourg. An award winning accordionist, Servane is always looking for ways to innovate with unusual combinations of instruments and also others artists, not necessarily musicians. Classical accordion is a quite recent instrument, and Servane is looking for exciting ways to promote and develop the possibilities for her instrument. Manus Noble is one of the most exciting and innovative of today’s generation of young Guitarists. In 2010 he was awarded a First from the Royal College of Music before being given a scholarship to do his Masters at the Royal Academy. He was also given Awards by the Musicians Benevolent Fund, Countess of Munster Trust and was awarded First Prize at the 2011 Ivor Mairants Guitar Competition. Recent recitals have included concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, Sage Gateshead, Purcell Room, Kings Place and several international guitar festivals. Having developed a certain flair for contemporary music, extended percussive techniques and also composing and commissioning new works for the instrument, Noble's wide and varied concert programmes are always well received by audiences. "Another future star was sighted in the guitarist Manus Noble...he steered a sparkling course through the timbre tapestry...Remarkably self-assured, Noble dispatched everything with refined technique, kissed by poetry" The Times Price type: Low cost, half at £10 or less | ||

At the heart of the programme stands Johann Sebastian Bach’s Italian cantata ‘Amore traditore’. The grand Palace of the Welfs in Hann. Münden, a Gothic building completed in 1501, served as their residence and administrative seat. It was almost entirely destroyed by fire in 1560 and rebuilt in early ‘Weser Renaissance’ style. | St Stephens Church, Gloucester Road, London, London SW7 4RL, United Kingdom Saturday 26-May-12 07:30pm Bach St John Passion St Stephen's Church in Gloucester Road will be the venue for CML's springtime concert, featuring a host of accomplished soloists and intrumentalists alongside the choir. Conductor Russell Du Plessis will lead a performance of Bach's St John Passion on 26 May, as part of the 2012 St Stephen's Festival. It will be CML's first performance of a large scale work by Bach since the Mass in B Minor formed part of a programme which included Vivaldi's Gloria at St James's Church, Piccadilly, in 2008. Considered by many to be the most extravagantly expressive and immediate of Bach’s Passion settings, the St John Passion’s lacerating acccount of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ finds the composer at his most operatic. Written in 1724, Bach scored the piece for an intimate group of soloists, four part choir and chamber orchestra. For this St Stephen's Festival performance, Collegium Musicum of London is joined by an illustrious ensemble of accomplished instrumentalists and soloists. Directed by BBC award-winning conductor Russell du Plessis, CML is rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the capital's leading chamber choirs. The St John Passion marks the ensemble's first appearance at this prestigious West London music festival.

| Westminster Cathedral Hall, London, London SW1P 1QW, United Kingdom Sunday 27-May-12 04:00pm Benjamin Grosvenor recital This concert is being held in the presence of HRH Princess Alexandra, Royal Patron of the Chopin Society.
Benjamin Grosvenor first came to prominence as the outstanding winner of the Keyboard Final of the 2004 BBC Young Musician Competition at the age of eleven. Since then, Benjamin has become an internationally regarded pianist performing concerti with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony, and Brazilian Symphony in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Muza Kawasaki and Carnegie Hall (at the age of thirteen). In 2011, having just turned nineteen, Benjamin performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on the First Night of the BBC Proms to a sold-out Royal Albert Hall. His performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 dazzled critics, with The Times commenting on ‘the clarity and poetry of his panache, the airy grace of his arpeggios, the lack of flash buckles and bows'. Benjamin works with numerous esteemed conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jirí Bìlohlávek and Vladimir Jurowski.
In 2011 Benjamin signed to Decca - the youngest British musician ever to be signed to the label and the first British pianist to do so for almost 60 years.
He first played for The Chopin Society in a private concert when he was 9 years old. We are delighted to welcome him back as the star we always knew he was.
Please note: No tickets can be sold on the door for this concert. The doors open at 15:00 and the audience must all be seated by 15:45 for the arrival of the royal party. Late-comers will not be allowed to enter the main part of the hall, but will be shown to the balcony.Image credit: laurie Lewis

| Kings Place: Hall Two, London, London N1 9AG, United Kingdom Monday 28-May-12 08:00pm Francesco Tristano presents BachCage 2.0 The differences between Johann Sebastian Bach and John Cage are obvious - or are they? Tristano organically blends Bach and Cage, blurring borders while emphasizing shared elements. Both masters are connected by a mathematically-oriented approach to composition. Tristano's selection of pieces is based on tonal convergence, on cyclical structures and polyphonic construction. He searches for spiritual common ground in both composers, which he conveys through his own compositions, stamping his mark with a fresh and unique sound. This is the London show of Tristano's bachCage album. The programme includes pieces by Bach, Cage and Tristano. | Palais des Beaux-Arts (BOZAR): Henri le Boeuf Concert Hall, Brussels, B1000 Brussels, Belgium Tuesday 29-May-12 08:00pm Bach Collegium Japan Masaaki Suzuki and his Bach Collegium Japan have been steeped in the works of Bach for many years now - since 1995 they have been working on recordings of his complete cantatas. The authenticity of their revival of Bach's world is stunning. The highlight of this concert is surely the grandiose Magnificat, in which Bach achieves a wonderful balance between the spiritual and dramatic aspects of the text.Image credit: Bach Collegium Japan & Masaaki Suzuki | ||
