| Cadogan Hall, London, 5 Sloane Terrace, London SW1X 9DQ, United Kingdom Tuesday 4-Jun-13 07:30pm Mozart, Weber and Tchaikovsky A glorious programme encompassing music of sublime wit, high drama and intense emotion. Mozart produced some of the most joyous operatic music ever written, and we are treated to several delights boasting vocal lines of deep expression and breathtaking agility.
Weber’s operas have been hugely influential, inspiring the likes of Wagner to embark on his pioneering music dramas. But it is his operatic overtures which are most frequently performed, and their popularity is understandable: the music brims with energy, intrigue and originality.
The programme culminates in the devastating beauty of Tchaikovsky’s 'Pathétique' Symphony, a masterpiece of aching emotion and symphonic brilliance. | ||

| Beethovenhalle, Bonn, 53113 Bonn, Germany Monday 16-Sep-13 08:00pm Queen of the Sweet Sound Heribert Beissel, founder and artistic director of the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn, has a particular eye for talent. He discovered and encouraged world stars like Sabine Meyer and Christiane Oelze early on. To mark his 80th birthday, Sabine Meyer is returning to Bonn. The soloist will be playing Carl Maria von Weber’s first Clarinet Concerto with the tried-and-tested sweet sounds that we are used to from her. And, unburdened by the past, the young singer Anna Lucia Richter, born in 1990, will be giving a fresh interpretation of the soprano part in the final movement of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony.

![]() | ||
| Sage: Hall One, Gateshead, Gateshead, United Kingdom Friday 25-Apr-14 07:30pm Poetic Chopin As Sibelius’s symphonic journey drew to a close, it grew ever more remarkable. His final symphony was something completely different: a single-movement epic of just twenty minutes, a work whose compactness seemed to encapsulate everything the composer had achieved to date. Sibelius might not have known it, but his Seventh’s big tune – now on a soaring trombone – was his farewell to the symphony. Preceding that, Chopin’s sparkling second piano concerto, Weber’s sharpshooting overture and a short piece from John Casken. With a pre-concert talk Tickets: £10-£33 | ||
