| Aldeburgh Box Office, 152 High Street, Aldeburgh IP15 5AQ, United Kingdom Friday 7-Jun-13 The Borough Punchdrunk Theatre Company and its artistic director Felix Barrett are pioneers in a highly individual form of theatre, focusing as much on audience members and the surroundings as the performers and the narrative. Lines between spaces, performer and spectator blur to create an unforgettable experience. This version sets the story somewhere between George Crabbe’s poem The Borough and Britten’s masterpiece, Peter Grimes. It will take audience members on individual theatrical journeys around Grimes’ town, following in his footsteps and hearing Britten’s score. Open air: Outdoors | ||

Cheryl has also toured in Switzerland where she performed a new work by composer Duncan Ward for soprano and brass in concert with the Meridian Brass Ensemble. This particular collaboration has also taken place at the Royal Festival Hall South Bank and at the PAW Festival in Swanage. Other concert performances include El Amor Brujo with conductor Jonathan Tilbrook and the Nottingham Orchestra; A Night of Spanish Song with the Iberian Quintet at the Peacock Theatre; and as a soloist in Mahler’s 2nd Symphony.
Very much at home in the operatic repertoire, Cheryl’s dramatic performances include Mimì (La bohème), First Lady (The Magic Flute), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Casilda (The Gondoliers), the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro) and Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw – Trinity Opera Scenes).

Other competitions she has taken part in include Bournemouth Music Festival Competition, New Milton Music Festival Competition and Bournemouth Evening Echo National Competition.
Ms. Coutinho has sung in many master classes with artists such as Simon Keenlyside, Rosalind Plowright, Jonathan Peter Kenny, and Rita Susovsky. She is also a member of the Trinity College of Music Mentor Scheme at Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House and has had the opportunity to shadow many rehearsals and music calls with Willard White, Roberto Alagna and Nina Stemme, among others.
Ffinian Jones began learning the piano at the age of eight and his natural ability soon became evident. He was invited to study performance, composition and history at the Staffordshire Musical Society for talented musicians, and by the age of 15 had already been awarded ABRSM Grade 8 distinction in the piano, cello and alto saxophone. He went on to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London, The Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. A year later Ffinian was successful in gaining a place at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester where he studied piano with Murray McLachlan. After his sixth form studies at Chetham’s, he entered Trinity College of Music in London as an undergraduate to study with Philip Fowke, and from September 2009 to January 2010 studied at the Conservatoire National et Superior de Music et Dance de Lyon, France, with Florrent Boffard as part of the Erasmus scheme.
Throughout his career he has participated in many master-classes given by distinguished musicians including Leslie Howard, Anton Kuerti, Phillipe Cassard, Noriko Ogawa, Alexander Ardakov, Mikhail Kazakevich, Deniz Gelenbe, and Douglas Finch. He was also invited to play Ronald Stevenson’s Peter Grimes Fantasy to the composer, who was himself a personal friend of Benjamin Britten.
Ffinian is a keen chamber musician and has formed a long standing duo with Soprano Cheryl Coutinho. The duo focuses mainly on the French and German repertoire and give regular concerts across the UK.
Ffinian's many competition successes include being finalist in the 2008 Il Circolo Competition, winner of the 2010 Trinity College John Ireland Competition, and soloist in Messiaen’s La Ville d’en Haut, held at Blackheath Halls, 2008. The Orlando Consort’s programme of music from 1250 to 1550 features beautiful religious works and lively secular pieces that document all aspects of food, including feasting, shopping, recipes and table manners. Their culinary journey takes them from medieval France to early renaissance Italy by way of Burgundy and England, surprisingly the ‘food capital’ of the age. After a diversion to the Iberian peninsula, they conclude in Germany with lively songs that are a true celebration of ale and… eggs! Works by Machaut, Guillaume de (1300-1377)

| Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Snape IP17 1SP, United Kingdom Friday 7-Jun-13 07:30pm Peter Grimes in Concert Peter Grimes is an outsider in ‘The Borough’, a
fictionalised version of Aldeburgh that first appeared
in George Crabbe’s poem in 1810. Yet in contrast to
Crabbe’s sadistic fisherman, Britten’s Grimes emerges
as an enigmatic anti-hero. Is he responsible for the
death of his young apprentice? Is he mad, evil or a
misunderstood visionary? Britten’s early masterpiece has captured the
imagination of audiences around the world ever since
its premiere in the aftermath of the second world war.
First written for Peter Pears, the role of Grimes is
sung by Alan Oke, who received huge critical acclaim
for his portrayal of Aschenbach in the 2007
Aldeburgh Festival production of Death in Venice.
This concert performance gives you a rare chance to
hear the opera in the magnificent concert hall that

Beethoven’s youthful First Piano Concerto is a work of great brilliance and virtuosity. Though modelled on the late piano concertos of Mozart, Beethoven’s own musical voice is already very much in evidence. The second half of the concert features one of the most popular symphonies in the repertoire – Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’. Packed with famous tunes, Dvořák’s best known work combines the folk music and landscapes of America with a yearning nostalgia for the composer’s native Bohemia. A stunning climax to the Blackburn Classics Series.

Playful with a hint of the ironic, Hindemith's Kleine Kammermusik is only "little" in name. Its dance-like rhythms include a fun waltz and a melody worthy of imbibing at Oktoberfest. We usually hear Rachmaninoff's Morceaux de salon for piano, but this set of dance forms is perfect for chamber instruments. An early work, Dvořák's Sextet is replete with folk idioms and dances from his native Czechoslovakia that are a whirlwind of virtuosity. Chamber pieces performed by three of the best student ensembles of the week are sure to move you.

| Aldeburgh Box Office, 152 High Street, Aldeburgh IP15 5AQ, United Kingdom Saturday 8-Jun-13 The Borough Punchdrunk Theatre Company and its artistic director Felix Barrett are pioneers in a highly individual form of theatre, focusing as much on audience members and the surroundings as the performers and the narrative.
