| Trinity Church, Harrow, Hindes Road, Harrow HA1 1RX, United Kingdom Saturday 25-Sep-10 07:30pm Trinity Orchestra 30th Anniversary Concert Trinity Orchestra celebrates its 30th Anniversary launching the season with this exciting and exacting programme. Nick White, a Royal College of Music Junior Department student, will premiere his new work 'Bugle' as a RCM composition prize. The orchestra also welcomes Nicholas McCarthy, a RCM student, who plays Ravel's Piano Concerto for Left Hand (which is suited to him as he was born without his right hand) plus the world-renowned Finchley Children's Music Group which collaborates in The Planets by Holst. The warm acoustic of Trinity Church Harrow will ring with this wonderful music. The concert is held in association with the RCM and is sponsored by Bluthner Piano Centre. Hear about the music at the pre-concert talk, led by conductor Michael Murray, at 7pm. Tickets: Entry by programme - £12 (£10 Concessions, £6 children, £30 family) Tickets available at the door, subject to availability. White, Nick, Bugle (World premiere) | ||

| Wharton Center, East Lansing, MI, East Lansing, 48823, United States Saturday 16-Apr-11 08:00pm Lansing Symphony Orchestra - MasterWorks 6: Exploring Gershwin and Ravel Timothy Muffitt, Conductor; Anton Nel, Piano; GERSHWIN - Cuban Overture; RAVEL - Piano Concerto; RAVEL - Piano Concerto for the Left Hand; GERSHWIN - An American in Paris; Tickets: $45-$12, based on seating; Student prices available! Call or visit our website to order! The 2010/11 season concludes with a look at jazz from both sides of the Atlantic. Gershwin’s Cuban Overture starts the night off with thrilling Latin rhythms and rich, exciting orchestration. When Ravel was traveling in the United States, he was highly impressed by the jazz movement and incorporated much of what he was hearing into his Piano Concerto and Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, which will feature pianist Anton Nel. Nel has been heralded by the New York Times as “an uncommonly elegant pianist” and “an exceptional performer” by the Chicago Sun Times. The night concludes with one of Gershwin’s most well-known and energizing works: An American in Paris. | ||
