Schubert’s Quintet is the music most frequently chosen in Desert Island Discs, and is one of the most moving and profound works in the whole of chamber music. In this concert it is paired with another masterwork, the Brahms Quintet originally written for piano and string quartet, but here played in the arrangement for strings by Sebastian Brown.
