| Wigmore Hall, London, United Kingdom Saturday 1-May-10 19:30 Matthew Polenzani tenor; Julius Drake piano Winner of the 2008 Beverly Sills Artist Award at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Matthew Polenzani is clearly a young tenor to watch. His Wigmore programme includes the first song-cycle ever composed, Beethoven’s paean to his distant beloved, as well as a garland of Schubert favourites. Less well-known settings of Schiller by Liszt lead to Venetian dialect settings by Reynaldo Hahn, and the Italian thread continues in Britten’s radiant Michelangelo Sonnets. Liszt, Franz (1811-1886), 3 Songs from Schiller’s Wilhelm Tell, S 292 (Der Fischerknabe, Der Hirt, Der Alpenjäger) Matthew Polenzani, Tenor Julius Drake, Piano | ||
