| Grieg's Villa (Troldhaugen), Bergen, Bergen N 5232, Norway Sunday 27-May-12 01:00pm Ksenija Sidorova, accordion Ksenija Sidorova, born in 1988 in Latvia, is quite a rarity: a classical accordionist. According to a critic she makes ‘this big, unwieldy instrument seem as light and fleet as a dancer’. She performs works from the classical repertoire alongside works written especially for the accordion.
Ksenija Sidorova took up the accordion at the age of eight. She studied at Riga 1st music school under the guidance of Marija Gasele. Her studies eventually led her to London, where she from 2005 was a prize-winning undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music. She has competed in international talent competitions in several European countries, winning the International Accordion Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia and others. Recent concert engagements include performances with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the Marinsky Theatre Orchestra, as well as an appearance in Wigmore Hall in May 2009.
Throughout her career she has won numerous awards, and she was the first accordionist to win the WCoM Prince's Prize. Classical Source says of Sidorova that she is ‘an amazingly accomplished artist’ that has ‘the ability to steal a musical heart’.Programme to include:

| Haakon's Hall (Håkonshallen), Bergen, Bergen 5835, Norway Monday 28-May-12 03:00pm Nordic Hour The Norwegian soprano Trine Wilsberg Lund comes from Germany bringing a handful of beautiful Nordic lieder with her.
A major part of this concert is devoted to Edvard Grieg. Trine Wilsberg Lund has chosen songs in which he sets music to texts by great lyricists: Ibsen, Goethe and Hans Christian Andersen.
This somewhat continental Grieg makes an exciting complement to the music before the interval – Finnish and Swedish songs from the generation after Grieg. Sibelius, Stenhammar and Alfvén were all great orchestral composers looking for a Nordic sound, and the sound they found for the orchestra is reflected in the smaller format of voice and piano.
Trine Wilsberg Lund from Oslo, who has been a member of the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, has been involved in numerous recordings, most recently as the soloist in four Schubert Masses with the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra conducted by Morten Schuldt-Jensen.
She is joined by the British pianist Alexander Soddy, who in addition to working as a repetiteur for operatic companies and accompanying in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall has recently received acclaim as a conductor. Sibelius, Jean (1865-1957), Piano works Stenhammar, Wilhelm (1871-1927), Piano works Alfven, Hugo (1872-1960), Piano works Sjoberg, Carl (1861-1900), Piano works Grieg, Edvard (1843-1907), Piano works

![]() | ||
| St Andrew Holborn, London, London EC4A 3AB, United Kingdom Monday 9-Jul-12 06:00pm A Postcard from Leipzig With Share Music SwedenLeipzig, as the 19th century progressed, took over the mantle of Europe’s most influential city after Vienna. Felix Mendelssohn was largely responsible, both as the music director of the Gewandehaus Orchestra and the first director of the Conservatoire, which he founded in 1843 to mark the centenary of his orchestra. Leipzig’s importance did not come out of the blue, because it was also the city where, a century earlier, Bach produced his extraordinary set of cantatas for the Thomas Church. Mendelssohn revived interest in the neglected Bach and in the regular performance of these cantatas, which to this day can still be heard in the church. Leipzig was a magnet to some of the great emerging musicians from around Europe, including the composers featured in this concert.
This is a fitting ‘Postcard’ for an outstanding young Norwegian pianist to be sending to the City of London Festival: Norway’s Edvard Grieg studied there and, ten years earlier, his compatriot Halfdan Kjerulf attended the Leipzig Conservatoire on a Norwegian government scholarship. This was also Schumann’s city and the place where he met his exact contemporary, Chopin, when the Polish-French fellow pianist and composer came to visit.

The opportunity to see her play locally is something like a celestial event,” said the Los Angeles Times. Known as a violinist of extraordinary musical versatility as at home with standard repertoire as with some of the most difficult 20th and 21st century contemporary works, Anne-Sophie Mutter is also recognized for her numerous charity projects and work on behalf of exceptionally talented young musicians. Together with long-time musical partner, pianist Lambert Orkis, Ms. Mutter presents a program featuring Schoenberg’s Fantasie Op.47, Webern’s Four Pieces, Franck’s Sonata in A Major and André Previn’s Sonata No. 2.

| Donald and Maureen Green Music Center, Sonoma, CA, Sonoma, 94928, United States Sunday 7-Apr-13 03:00pm Concert Classic Series: Vadim Repin Siberian violinist Vadim Repin began playing at the age of five and six months later had his first stage performance. He went on to win gold medals in all age categories in his first violin competition six years later. Since then he has toured and performed around the world to astonishing critical acclaim with media commenting not only on his technical virtuosity but on the humanity and depth of his playing. The Washington Post critic Anne Midgette wrote, “Repin can make the violin sing when he wants to: the final movement of the Debussy unfolded in shining arabesques, colored like chinoiserie. But he doesn’t always want to, nor does he seem to seek technical perfection for its own sake. Instead, he strives for humanity.” Vadim Repin and his frequent musical collaborator, pianist Itamar Golan, bring a program of sonatas by Janáček, Brahms and Grieg. Works by Janáček, Leoš (1854-1928) Works by Brahms, Johannes (1833-1897) Works by Grieg, Edvard (1843-1907) | ||
