| De Munt | La Monnaie: Grand Hall, Brussels, Muntplein-Place de la Monnaie, 1000 Brussels, Belgium Monday 10-Jan-11 08:00pm Recital Mark Padmore: "Heinrich Heine-Lieder" Heinrich Heine’s poetry is a mosaic of timbres and refined rhythm. Every one of his poems asks to be set to music; since the 19th century, there has always been a select band of composers who have taken up this invitation. Robert Schumann was one of the first musical advocates of Heine’s work and he devoted no less than two whole collections to his contemporary’s poems. In both Dichterliebe and the Liederkreis, op. 24, the listener bathes in a multitude of emotional nuances. Franz Lachner too was inspired by Heine’s poetry: although his Heine-Lieder are hardly known at all, they also deserve a place in the repertoire. In the last few seasons, audiences at La Monnaie have on several occasions been able to enjoy the singing of Mark Padmore, a British tenor whose intelligent approach to the lyrics, exemplary diction and heartfelt identification with the role are always convincing. / Production La Monnaie Works by Lachner, Franz Paul (1803-1890) (Heinrich Heine-Lieder) | ||
