He created the choreography for the Oscar winning psychological thriller Black Swan. But Benjamin Millepied likes a new challenge, and has moved to Los Angeles to set up L.A. Dance Project. It’s not a dance company in the traditional sense of the word, but more of an artists’ collective. Within this collective, Millepied is looking for collaborations with other art forms, with a view to moving into new frontiers of dance.
At the Holland Festival, L.A. Dance Project will present a programme with Merce Cunningham’s radical piece Winterbranch, William Forsythe’s Quintett, which is seldom performed, and Reflections, a new piece by Millepied himself.Running time 1 hour 30 minutes including one interval. In his latest work, Lagraa shares his view on the essence of Islamic culture – how the traditions, practices and rituals are rooted in the core values of Islam: generosity and brotherhood. He was inspired by the eastern rituals concerning the three elements of purity, origin and spirituality. Through dance he examines the scope of freedom of the individual physical body within culturally diverse societies.Co-production between: Grand Théâtre de Provence – Marseille Provence 2013 / Capitale Européenne de la Culture, Les Gémeaux/Sceaux/Scène Nationale, Théâtre National de Chaillot, Holland Festival, La Coursive, Scène nationale de La Rochelle, Le Théâtre, Scène Nationale de Narbonne.

Now, for the first time, they are visiting the Holland Festival with a new piece Dança morta (Dead dance). Beltrão grew up with street-dance and later studied contemporary dance and philosophy. His radical choreographies are rooted in the explosive physicality of hip hop. In his work, Beltrão brilliantly abstracts everyday reality using a very contemporary language of dance. The prominent dance magazine Ballettanz voted Beltrão ‘rising star choreographer of the year’.Running time 1 hour 30 minutes, no interval.
