The Bachtrack directory contains listings for music-related businesses in the United Kingdom. We are continually expanding the directory: this page tells you about some of the types of business or service that you may expect to find in it at present.
Local Authority Music Service
These are the government services to contact if you are trying to find a local music teacher. We have put phone numbers and website addresses (where available) into the database; we have also put in regions so you can find a service close to you. A word of warning: local governments' range of services and web pages change frequently, so the method of getting to the relevant part of the website often changes also. You will usually find that you need to click from the landing page to “education,” and then often to “extra-curricular activities” before you find “music”.

Making Music, the National Federation of Music Societies, is the umbrella organisation that represents and supports over 2,500 voluntary music groups throughout the UK, including choirs, orchestras, bands and music promoters. As the largest umbrella arts organisation in the UK, it provides a comprehensive range of artistic and administrative services, development and training opportunities to members, and also lobbies on behalf of its members to national and local government and other agencies. Collectively, Making Music’s 175,000 musicians and music lovers present around 10,000 concerts each year to an audience of 1.6 million people.
If you are looking for a musical group to join, or if you think your music group needs some help, they are the first people to call. You can find contact details, including a website for each region in the Directory. Making Music also has a committee that looks after the interests of all their concert promoters.

Local Music Societies and Clubs

Music Shops, instrument sales and repair
Find a musical instrument repair shop near you or find a local shop to buy a musical instrument. This section of the directory is to help you buy and get your instrument serviced. We have put together a selection of shops who offer these service for classical instruments.
University Music
There are Universities and Colleges around the country who frequently put on free or very cheap concerts. We have put together of those we know about. Their websites will give details of their concerts if they haven't had time to submit them to our site.
Free Music in Churches
Churches and Cathedrals often allow young performers or those about to perform at another venue the opportunity to do a run through of their programme. Organ recitals are also often performed in Churches on a regular basis. All the Churches in this list put on regular concerts that are free, other than a retiring collection to which you are expected to contribute. This list brings together those Churches we have found. More information can probably be found on their website - if they have one. Free concerts in Churches usually take place at lunchtime.
