We continue to make efforts to keep our database of composers and works clean, so that visitors browsing our listings have the easiest possible task in finding performances of their favourite works.
Change of style guidelines - part works
We have recently decided to reverse one of our style guidelines: we have previously asked contributors not to add part-works as separate items in the database. This has caused confusion: for example, it means that Rossini opera overtures show in listings of complete operas, even in cases where the overture is frequently played but the complete opera is rarely performed.
We are now happy for people to put in part works; if you do, we ask you to use the style main work: part work, for example:
La Forza del Destino: overture
Symphony no. 5 in C sharp minor: 4th movement (Adagietto)
Rigoletto: aria "La donna รจ mobile" (In this case, please give a work type of "Opera aria/scene".)
You can see the full set of guidelines on http://www.bachtrack.com/workname_style_guidelines.
Over the next week, we will be going through the forthcoming concerts already in the database to ensure that they reflect this new policy.
At some point in the future, we intend to add a feature to the site whereby the visitor can choose whether to look for complete performances only of a work or to look for performances of its part works: for example, a visitor looking for part performances who selected "Enigma Variations" would also see "Nimrod". We also intend to make other changes to make it easier for you to find works that are already in the database and avoid creating duplicates - watch this space!
New site section
If you are in the UK and put on talks or lectures about music, you may wish to input details of your events into the new section specially dedicated to these: visit http://www.bachtrack.com/talk-or-lecture-list to see what this looks like. Adding listings is easy and free: simply go to "Create content" and choose the content type "Talk or lecture".
As usual, if you have any comments, anything you'd like to see on the site, or any way in which you think it should be improved, please let us know via the contact us page.
With continued thanks for your contribution to the site.
