Summer is drawing to a close, but the sun is soon to rise on a new season of concerts, opera and ballet. Here are a few highlights from the last month on Bachtrack, and a quick look forward at what's to come in the next few months.

David enjoyed a trip to Bayreuth back at the beginning of August for a brace of stunningly performed Wagner pieces, and we also caught the month's most Olympian world première in Birmingham: Stockhausen's six-hour masterpiece Mittwoch aus Licht, which fully lived up to all the hype and helicopters.
