29 June – 31 August 2013

Since 1987, the Rheingau Music Festival has been attracting delighted audiences to the region between Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Lorch. Nowadays, every summer the Rheingau Music Festival’s programme features almost 150 concerts at more than 40 different venues. The broad spectrum of the concert programme focuses primarily on classical music, but also extends to jazz and cabaret. The artistic excellence of all the concerts is the salient feature they all share.

The 26th Rheingau Music Festival will run from 29 June to 31 August 2013. Apart from the main programming themes Wagner & Verdi: 200th anniversary, Next Generation and Family get-togethers the cellist Sol Gabetta and composer Fazıl Say will be guest as our Artists in Residence.

164 concerts at 46 venues throughout the Rheingau and its neighbouring regions have been scheduled. The principal venues are Kloster Eberbach (Eberbach Monastery), Schloss Johannisberg (Johannisberg Palace) and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden (Assembly Rooms). Numerous castles, churches and wine estates are among the attractive venues with a specific regional character, such as the Seebühne of Schloss Vollrads (a stage in a pond) and the Steinberg vineyard below Kloster Eberbach.

This summer’s guest artists include such eminent soloists and ensembles as Daniel Barenboim, Anne Sofie von Otter, Magdalena Kožená, Fazıl Say, Sol Gabetta, Mitsuko Uchida, David Garrett, Oleta Adams, Curtis Stigers, Lautten Compagney Berlin, Hagen Quartett, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Symphony Orchestra with Christoph Eschenbach, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightment.
