Members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, chamber music, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello, Siena. Sound like an attractive combination? Well, Musica Reale (chamber music by members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) presents a festival every year in the dreamy Tuscan hillside wine town of Montalcino and in the celebrated historic gardens of Villa di Geggiano, about 6km east of Siena.

Known and lesser-known masterpieces of chamber music are performed in an informal atmosphere and surrounded by complementary elements to enhance your enjoyment. Great wines, local cuisine, historic settings, the Tuscan landscape, blend together to offer an unforgettable artistic experience.

Musica Reale is composed exclusively of prominent members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (voted “Greatest Orchestra in the World”, Gramophone, December 2008) playing in ensembles of varying size and composition, according to repertoire. Programming could be described as “comfortably eclectic” given the fact that an enormous variety of instruments is available. This allows us to construct programs selected from the entirety of the world’s chamber music. Each concert is preceded by an aperitif and followed by an “al fresco” seated buffet dinner with the musicians featuring local specialties and wines, a wonderful way to meet and exchange ideas with the performers and music lovers.

2013 will be Musica Reale’s Seventh International Chamber Music Festival. Concerts will take place on 7, 8, 9, 12 July in Montalcino, and on 11 July in the gardens of Villa di Geggiano. Nine players from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, both strings and winds, will combine in programmes featuring well known masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire and new discoveries. Gloria Campaner, a brilliant young Italian pianist, will be our guest soloist this year. As usual, the atmosphere will be welcoming, and young listeners and music students are encouraged to attend the morning rehearsals.

Activities surrounding the festival may include wine tours and tastings, visits to the countless historic and artistic settings in the vicinity, visits to such iconic cities as Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena and Florence (all within easy striking distance).
