Mozart Week 22 January - 2 February 2014

The Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation. Mozart’s heritage – preservation and contemporary encounters.

The Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation is a non-profit organization whose primary focus has been the life and œuvre of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. The organization offers concerts, maintains the Mozart museums and supports academic research. These three core areas seek not only to preserve and foster tradition but to be open to changing perspectives and consider new approaches when encountering the works of Mozart.

The Mozart Week Each year around the time of Mozart's birth in January, the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg hosts the Mozart Week with opera performances and orchestral, chamber, and soloist concerts. World-renowned Mozart interpreters, orchestras, and ensembles are responsible for the unparalleled reputation of this unique event. This week of concerts, which was first held in 1956, invites visitors from around the world to rediscover Mozart's works from ever-changing perspectives and to hear them afresh.

In the year of the 300th anniversary of Gluck’s birthday, the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation presents Orfeo ed Euridice. Marc Minkowski conducts, Ivan Alexandre is the stage director and Pierre-André Weitz is responsible for designing the sets and costumes. Countertenor Bejun Mehta sings the title role and is partnered by Camilla Tilling as Euridice and with Maria Savastano as Amor; the choruses will be sung by the Salzburg Bach Choir. The Vienna Philharmonic give three concerts in the Grosses Festspielhaus. The Mozart Children’s Orchestra, four guest orchestras, the resident Salzburg orchestras will also make their mark on the Mozart Week 2014. Among the 31 concerts during the Mozart Week in 2014 exquisite chamber concerts, recitals and Museum Concerts can be heard, bringing together top class artists. A select programme of films, a round table discussion on the subject Mozart and his Contemporaries and introductory lectures complete the programme of the Mozart Week 2014.
