| International House of Music, Moscow, naberezhnaya Kosmodamianskaya, д. 52 стр. 8, Moscow 115054, Russia Monday 9-Dec-13 07:00pm Nino Gvetadze Schoenberg once described Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) as ‘a depiction of the night and an expression of human feelings.’ Upon hearing the music Gustav Mahler immediately declared it a work of genius. In this unique masterpiece Schoenberg fully exploits every facet of the string orchestra. Reason aplenty for Amsterdam Sinfonietta to adopt Verklärte Nacht as one of its favourite showpieces. The CD recording of the work was awarded the French Opus d’or prize, among others. In collaboration with the Cheltenham Festival and other institutions Amsterdam Sinfonietta has commissioned the English composer David Matthews to write a double concerto for violin and viola.
The talented Georgian pianist Nino Gvetadze makes her first appearance with the ensemble with a piano concerto of Mendelssohn. She made her name in the Netherlands after winning three prizes at the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, followed by the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Award. Her poetic playing has received high acclaim.Image credit: Marco Borggreve | ||
