9 – 12 August 2012
This classical music event breaks all boundaries in bringing the finest artistic experiences to the fells of Finnish Lapland. The heavens alone provide the roof and great old pine trees form the walls of Ukko-Luosto concert hall, which seats 2,000 with plenty of space besides for those who would simply lie in the heather. Other concert places are as extraordinary. Aittakuru is a deep ravine formed by an ancient glacial river. The stage is on the bottom near a small pond. The audience sits tens of meters above. Ahvenlampi is a scenic lake whose glimmering surface offers the acoustics and whose high banks are excellent for the audience.
The main guest orchestra in LuostoClassic festival 2012 will be one of the most renowned orchestras in Europe, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. BBC PO will play in the main concert, where it performs the new percussion concerto composed by Kalevi Aho and also Aho’s LuostoSymphony with the Lapland Chamber orchestra. Concert is conducted by John Storgårds. The percussion soloist is world famous British percussion specialist Colin Currie. Colin Currie is soloist also in Lapland Chamber orchestra’s concert that premieres British composer Dave Maric’s percussion concerto.
