De muziek uitgevoerd, door ensemble Nieuw Amsterdams Peil, is van de Amerikaans-Nederlandse componist Benedict Weisser (1967). De regie is van Matthias Mooij. De voorstelling schetst de ondoorgrondelijke relatie tussen moeder en zoon. Hoorbaar en voelbaar in de vorm van telefoongesprekken die hun hele leven bestrijken en met muziek die het mysterie van de moederliefde vertegenwoordigt.
Componist Benedict Weisser heeft grote affiniteit met vocale muziek en oogstte eerder succes met zijn compositie Kavanah voor tenor Alberto Mizrahi en Cappella Amsterdam, en met zijn kameropera Penthesilea. Voor Nieuw Amsterdams Peil bedacht hij een ongewone combinatie van instrumenten. In de regie van Matthias Mooij maken de musici deel uit van de theatrale wereld. Dit concert is onderdeel van het Babelfestival, waarin het Muziekgebouw partner is.

| Muziekgebouw aan't IJ: Small Hall, Amsterdam, Piet Heinkade 1, Amsterdam 1019, Netherlands Sunday 8-Dec-13 11:00am Ensemble Scala Microtonale muziek maakt gebruik van de ruimte tussen de twaalf tonen zoals we die kennen van bijvoorbeeld de piano. Ensemble SCALA is een uniek samengesteld ensemble dat speciaal is opgericht om microtonaal repertoire uit te voeren. SCALA bestaat uit twee blazers, twee snaarinstrumenten, twee toetsinstrumenten en slagwerk. Met in dit concert onder andere een nieuwe compositie van Gijsbrecht Royé, waarin hij op zoek gaat naar schoonheid in klank.
Gijsbrecht Royé is een van de grote pioniers op het gebied van microtonale muziek in Nederland. Niet alleen componeert hij microtonale muziek, ook bedenkt en bouwt hij zelf instrumenten. Hiermee treedt hij in de voetsporen van baanbrekende 20e-eeuwse componisten als John Cage en Harry Partch. Daarnaast staan opmerkelijke en spannende werken uit verschillende stijlperiodes op het programma.

toegestane limiet ver overschrijden’, schreef de Volkskrant in een 4-sterren recensie na de première
van Henosis. Het werk voor acht zangers en improvisatietrio schreef gitarist en componist Bram
Stadhouders (1987) in opdracht van het North Sea Jazz Festival 2012.
‘Henosis’ betekent eenheid in het Oud-Grieks. Bram Stadhouders bewijst dat klassiek en jazz/improvisatie als twee totaal verschillende disciplines te verenigen zijn in één werk. Een grote intense en organische ervaring van bombastische maar ook zeer intieme sferen.
