For the first concert weekend, on June 13, 14, and 15, clarinetist Eric Hoeprich will introduce the
unfamiliar but hauntingly beautiful chalumeau. The program will highlight this once popular instrument,
a relative of both the recorder and the clarinet, in works by Handel, Vivaldi, and others, including Holy
Roman Emperor Joseph I. Stephen Hammer on baroque oboe, and Kristen Watson, soprano, will also
join Mr. Stepner, who will lead a small ensemble. nu nog is het voor velen een moment voor bezinning, voor rouw en berouw. Bijna traditioneel hoort
hier een uitvoering bij van Bachs Matthäus of Johannes Passion. Dirigent Peter Dijkstra stelde een
indrukwekkend alternatief passieprogramma samen met muziek van alle tijden.
Een passieconcert zonder muziek van Bach. Maar wel met prachtige koorwerken van componisten als de vroege Duitse barokmeester Heinrich Schütz en de 20e-eeuwse Oostenrijker Ernst Krenek.
