The opera, based on the Chester Miracle Play, will involve over 60 local school children from Shaldon Primary School, Stokeinteignhead Primary School and Teignmouth Community School as well as professional singers. Young musicians from Chetham’s School of Music will form the core of the orchestra. The audience also gets the opportunity to participate in three hymn settings. To encourage the fullest participation by the audience, the first half hour following the start of the performance will be used to rehearse these audience items. The audience is asked to make sure they take their seats before 7.00pm, as it will be particularly difficult to seat late arrivals once the audience rehearsal has started. The performance time following the audience rehearsal is approximately 50 minutes and there will be no interval or bar facility on this occasion. The expected finishing time will be about 8.30pm. The Festival would like to thank the following people and organisations for their support: Father Ashley Lewin Manhire Bequest Chetham's School of Music and the Britten-Pears Foundation Devon County Council Councillor's Fund D'Oyly Carte Charitable Trust The Golsoncott Foundation The Helen Foundation The Marjorie and Geoffrey Jones Charitable Trust This production starts at the earlier time of 7.00pm. Tickets are limited and only available by mail order. Please check the news box on the homepage for the current situation concerning the availability of tickets.

| Sanssouci Palace: Court of Honour, Potsdam, Potsdam, Germany Sunday 23-Jun-13 09:00pm Scandinavian Last Night This week midsummer night is celebrated everywhere in the North and each country has its very own customs. In Denmark and Norway the summer solstice festivities were connected to John the Baptist’s saint’s day, so celebrations commence tonight into "St. Hans Eve". Lighting huge bonfires to scare away evil spirits is always an important part, then there is the traditional "fire speech", which takes a satirical look at day-to-day affairs. In Denmark they even place a straw witch on top of the fire and send her back to Mount Brocken in the Harz Mountains in Germany – German craftsmen are reported to have brought this custom to the country a long time ago. A night of miracles and legends – perfect for entering musical fairy-tale worlds where Shakespeare’s elves, Nordic trolls and characters from Arabian nights gather …

| Tewkesbury Abbey, Tewkesbury GL20 5RZ, United Kingdom Thursday 4-Jul-13 06:00pm Noye's Fludde at Tewkesbury Abbey Britten created Noye’s Fludde – regarded by many as still the most inspired and most inspiring piece of music for young people – simply because he passionately believed in bringing children and adults, amateurs and professionals together for community music-making. And he was good at it – at writing satisfying roles for highly trained professional soloists alongside parts for recorder ensembles, handbell ringers and beginner violinists. Making Noye’s Fludde doable for everyone, but at the same time something of substance and sophistication, was just one aspect of Britten’s genius.
This special Cheltenham Music Festival production will bring together over 200 local schoolchildren – singing, acting, playing, making costumes. Gloucestershire Youth Players’ founder Edward Derbyshire will direct, and the set and costumes will be designed by children’s author and illustrator James Mayhew.

Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ: Main Hall, Amsterdamo/Modernt ensemble - Monteverdi ontmoet Schönberg |

| Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ: Main Hall, Amsterdam, Piet Heinkade 1, Amsterdam 1019 BR, Netherlands Tuesday 18-Mar-14 08:15pm o/Modernt ensemble - Monteverdi ontmoet Schönberg De muziek van Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) en van Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951) lijken compleet
verschillend.
