The source of this influence is unmistakeable: Froberger studied in Rome with the other great master of 17th-century keyboard music, Girolamo Frescobaldi. In this recital Van Immerseel places Froberger alongside his much older, but similarly Catholic colleague: William Byrd, juxtaposing the Italian polyphonic tradition with the expressive music of the English virginalists. | ||
