| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Thursday 23-May-13 08:00pm Bach Week: The Complete Brandenburg Concertos Bach wrote these six concertos for various instruments for the Margrave of Brandenburg who would eventually become the King of Prussia and Saxony. He was never paid and never thanked! It took 150 years before they became known as the Brandenburg Concertos and they are considered to be the greatest works in the Baroque repertoire. You’ll hear all of them in this concert that features a star-studded cast led by distinguished British violinist Elizabeth Wallfisch and including trumpet sensation Jens Lindemann and the winners of the Canada Council Musical Instrument Bank 2012 Competition along with many of Montreal’s finest musicians.
Today the Bank possesses 35 million dollars of string instruments and, through competition, offers each one for three years to outstanding young Canadian artists. A few of the instruments came together on stage at the Festival several years ago but otherwise the collection, which includes Stradivarius, Guarneri del Gesù and Gagliano, has never been heard in performance on the same stage at the same time. Until now! For the first time in the history of the Canada Council, we are proud to present 16 winners of the 2012 competition. This concert features each performer in a solo work by Bach. An historic event!Jens Lindemann, Trumpet Vincent Lauzer, Recorder Kirsten Zander, Oboe Elizabeth Wallfisch, Violin Jocelyn Roy, Flute Hank Knox, Harpsichord Alex Raine-Wright, Recorder Louis-Philippe Marsolais, Horn Jocelyn Veilleux, Horn Marc Gibbons, Oboe Marcus Thompson, Viola Betsy Macmillan, Viola da Gamba Elin Söderström, Viola da Gamba Denis Brott, Cello James VanDemark, Double Bass | ||

| Montreal Chamber Music Festival at St George's Church, Montreal, QC, 1101 Rue Stanley, Montreal H3B 2S2, Canada Saturday 1-Jun-13 06:00pm Everybody loves Tchaikovsky - 4 hour Marathon Once again we celebrate the end of a fabulous Festival that has featured outstanding performances and tremendous audiences. To close out the season we offer you a marathon double concert of Tchaikovsky, the great Russian romantic who gave us some of the most beloved and often-played music in the world, including the 1812 Overture and the fabulous Nutcracker. Tonight we offer something more intimate but equally outstanding, his chamber music.
Tchaikovsky’s music was played at the inauguration of Carnegie Hall and will bring our Festival to an end but not before we hear his first String Quartet, his Piano Trio, his Souvenir de Florence, a very special performance of a transcription for piano of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony by teen sensation Conrad Tao and, to close the season, his Serenade for Strings. Many of this season’s artists will be back to take a bow and, with their final notes, offer us a marvelous way to bring the 18th season to a close. Thank you all for making this the best season ever and see you next year! | Orangery Sanssouci: Terraces, Potsdam, Mulberry Avenue, Potsdam, Germany Saturday 15-Jun-13 04:00pm Concerto Grotto The Faroe Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean between the British Isles, Norway and Iceland. They have their own language and culture and as a nation with equal rights they belong to the Kingdom of Denmark. They are also home to an ensemble whom composer and pianist Kristian Blak writes his music for: inspired by the islands’ traditional music and their magnificent landscapes, improvisationally spontaneous, floating freely between the styles and as unpredictable as the Faroese weather. Yggdrasil is the world tree in Northern mythology lowering its roots into the deepest depth of the underworld – YGGDRASIL have already played concerts in the rock caves of their craggy islands, now they dive into Sanssouci’s underworld and take you into the grotto behind the jubilee terrace’s vine covered arches and onto a fantastical journey of sound all the way to the Faroe Islands.

| New Garden: Palace Park, Potsdam, Potsdam, Germany Saturday 15-Jun-13 08:30pm Folk in the Garden Keeping tradition does not mean to keep ashes, but to make sure the fire does not stop burning. True to this principle we use 2013 for turning from Jazz to Folk in the Garden. Scandinavia’s folk music scene reinvigorates the local musical tradition. Old melodies are lovingly and respectfully absorbed without any stylistic inhibitions and they are linked to multiple worlds of contemporary musical experience. Be there when a number of illustrious representatives of their art take over the park at Heiliger See and the spark once again truly lights the fire. Performances happen simultaneously in various locations both indoors and outdoors between Orangery and Marble Palace and with a trip to the Sea Shell Grotto and the Bark Kitchen at Jungfernsee. You receive your complete program overview at the entrance so feel free to individually create your very own musical course while enjoying the atmospherically lit park in its vespertine beauty.
Look forward to the following musicians:
Led by one of Norway’s best folk fiddlers the GJERMUND LARSEN TRIO with Andreas Utnem at the piano & the harmonium and contrabass player Sondre Mejsfjord won the Norwegian Grammy. Their poetic creations make them one of the scene’s most exciting appearances.

| St Hildegard, Bonn-Mehlem, Deichmanns Aue 54, 53179 Bonn-Mehlem, Germany Sunday 22-Sep-13 07:00pm Rapsodia For this concert, the Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, “Artist in Residence 2013”, has invited very special guests, with whom she’ll be introducing her new CD, “Rapsodia”. She writes: “Everyone has a home: a country, a family, or a kind of music. I am lucky enough to have a home in all three, and there is something of each on this CD. Like a rhapsody, it unites the music of my homeland, my ancestors, the music with which I grew up, and without which I would not be what I am today.” All the more exciting, then, to hear the young virtuoso at the side of her parents, with whom she plays the music of her homeland in a stirring and authentic manner.
